Disable/Destroy Kharg Island Preferable to Occupation?

Kharg Island looks like a "monkey trap". It would be a waste of money & men to occupy it. Also too many contingencies: the Iranians will put a grenade on every valve - the entire facility will be a giant booby trap. Who wants their nuts blown off b/c they walked into an unexamined area?

A Much Better Plan: Destroy it or bomb parts of it and render it useless. At worst burn it to the ground. I favor the latter personally.

Gains: no troop losses, no waste of money, everybody keeps their nuts, and a fixed definitive schedule with limited budgetary cost (1 blockbuster atop the refinery every 6 months).

So why not do that?
