Any point in buying a beefy MacBook Pro for local LLM use?


I have needed a new MacBook for a while now and decided that with the new M5 coming out today it's time to pull the trigger.

The thing I keep wondering is: does it make sense to invest in lots of RAM for local LLM use? Is anyone using their MBP for this? What's the experience like?

Doubt it, purposeful hardware will generally do better on a perf-per-dollar basis.
