What are your small comforts?

Hey!

I recently came across Leo Babauta's concept of “small comforts”—simple, healthy ways to recharge during difficult moments when you're physically exhausted or intellectually drained.

A few principles that resonated with me: • Keep them small and occasional (don't overdo it). • Use them for recharging, not escaping from problems. • Let go of guilt—it's self-awareness, not weakness. • Be present and enjoy the moment.

Here are my small comforts:

  1. Listening to relaxing music while reading
  2. Hot shower when cold, cold shower when hot
  3. Favorite peanut butter bar
  4. Peanut butter and jelly on toasted bread
  5. Walking or Nordic walking in the park
  6. Jogging or cycling
  7. Cooking
  8. Loaded oatmeal (nuts, raisins, dates, spices)
  9. Lying on the couch with eyes closed and legs up
  10. Taking a nap
  11. Deep breathing exercises
  12. Short meditation sessions
  13. Sauna sessions
I tried to select ones that are safe and hard to overdo.

What are your small comforts that help you recharge?

Mine are relatively simple: a walk, some sunshine, some music, and a fresh cup of coffee or tea that I take a moment to brew (or walk to). Making sure I'm at baseline getting enough sleep, exercise, and time to read/think/just be helps as well.

There is nothing a hot shower, a hot cup of coffee, and a phone on do not disturb can't fix in my experience.

Walking my Irish Wolfhound (or him walking me). A cuppa joe and looking out at the fog.
