Is it possible to do great things in STEM in a not so great country?


I am from Nepal. And I really wanted to do some computer science stuffs at depth level. like graphics programming jobs. But is it even possible as someone from Nepal(not a great country) to do something great in the field of Science and Technology? Migrating away is obviously not an option in 2025 and onwards. It feels like dead-end.

Have you looked at online CS programs, like the Georgia Tech one which is very serious and taught by top faculty. Good luck with whatever you do.

Migrating might be more of an option than you think. If you can get a job offer in IT and have a university degree or significant work experience, EU countries typically make it relatively easy to get the corresponding work visa. E.g. information for Germany: https://www.make-it-in-germany.com/en/visa-residence/types/i... Even without a job offer, you might qualify for a job seeking visa or be able to enroll as a student.

The catch is of course the language barrier making everything a little bit inconvenient, and that the cost of living is likely to seem outrageously high compared to what you're used to (but still affordable if you can find at least a part-time student job.)
