Logistically, it would be a nightmare to score or even calculate. It would also be expensive to implement.
Would you reward more goals for faster soccer, hockey, lacrosse goals or extra runs in softball or baseball?
The notion seems preposterous to me.
There is nothing even in the core mechanics of basketball that even currently tracks shot speed whatever that means.
If you assertion is that the three point game is boring, I would contend that it is exactly the electric 3 point game that has ignited a following in the womans game so I dont buy that fans dont want to pay for watching 3 point shooters.
It might be possible to eliminate 3 point shots in a pinch but that seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face.
If basketball has an issue at the moment it might be related to a lack of defense. Many teams just play lip service to defense now.
If that is your bone to pick then would could adjust the contact rules slightly in favor of the defender and thus encourage more defense.
This would mean that basketball would suddenly become a more expensive game to play, would it not? What would that do to grassroots participation?
Why is this even being considered? Why did you ask this question?
I'm sorry if I am coming off as rude but I genuinely have no idea why you even asked this.
Are you hoping to suggest, that violent dunks should be worth the most points? Those would have the highest ball speed passing through the hoop.
For shooting, your suggestion is worthless.
