Digital Declutter – How?

It's this time of the year when it's easy to set some too optimistic goals for the next year.

Seriously limiting my time spent online has been pretty high on my list for some years already, but except for some rather short stretches of time, it's been a failure. Inevitably I go back to checking news, HN, social medias etc. way too much. Only things that work for me are the ones that increase the friction of getting around them to get online.

This year I'm considering getting a dumb phone, blocking most of the websites on the router's firewall and changing router's password.

Any tips and stories to share on what worked for you ?

I reflect a lot on the past, both on time spent with entertainment or 'infotainment' like watching YouTube as well as projects I may have undertaken. I ask myself what the long term gain is. Earlier in life I may had felt I have unlimited time. Not so anymore. Reflecting this way helps me rule out things I don't value.

Detox day! Pick one day a week and no non-work device time. (Or non-work on work devices)
