Struggling to find a job as PHP developer with lots of experience
I am from Europe. Been professionally programming in PHP for over a decade. I love coding, and technology in general. Finished my CS degree at the top of my class (from a good uni in UK). I have some passive income and some savings so I do not really need to worry much, however, I have lots of time and want to work on something interesting. I just need ~$2,000 a month so I can go back being able to save every month, not just survive. What should I do? I really do want to code and create something! Thanks a lot.
I assume that you're into backend web development? Is PHP the only web language you use? If so, then I'd recommend that you add one or more additional skills to your collection in order to make yourself a candidate for a wider variety of positions.
It's the one stack I personally would never ever want to work in again, but despite that (or maybe because of it?) they seem to always need help.
Just make sure your sanity meter is sufficiently high before you start... it'll go down a lot.
Why do you struggle? Are you not getting interviews? Or do you fail them?
Or is it about finding part time positions (which I assume you are looking for, based on your salary reqs)?
not sure if it against HN news but it might be useful to share links of work - github, linkedin etc so that commentators can get a picture of the work you've been doing.
