Here the topic was language apps and the comparison was dating apps, but we can probably come up with numerous other examples, of which pharmaceuticals are probably the poster child.
Less cynically, there are numerous instances in the leisure world where amateurs are grateful to engage with professionals who don't coach them up to independence, because the basic deal is that the pro does most of the schlep so the amateur has mostly fun.
For instance, I've heard with regard to boats that "owners only sail downwind" ... and leave it up to their crew to sail the boat upwind back.
Might there be a rule of thumb that would allow us to quickly triage service offerings into the more or less cynical buckets? Or does one have to approach them case by case? (if the latter, could it be there are, in the same industry segment, both kinds? or would knowing a segment suffice to determine the appropriate level of cynicism?)

Relatedly i've heard mused that dance and sculpture (,& cooking/woodworking, according to some tubecomment I'd read) are masculine arts, while music, drawing, and writing are feminine ones.
