HACKER Q&A

Best password manager? (end 2024)

I know it's a bit of an opinionated question, but you guys have a ton of experience in this. I'd like to save myself 20 hours (or more) of weighing the pro's and cons. I feel with these type of things, even when opinions are strong, it cuts right through the noise.

I'm a dev myself, just an unorganized one. It's time to get more organized.

In my opinion and after trying a few, by far: https://www.passwordstore.org/

KeePass

I've been using it for about 10 years now after an ex-colleague at a cybersecurity company recommended it. It's freeware, with a prompt a couple of times a year to buy the developer a beer.

Pros: It has a nice clean interface, with more features than I've ever found necessary.

Cons: Oddly, the fact that it's got so many features. The help is quite technical, but it may well suit someone better qualified than me.

1password is nice and easy. I don't self host and don't want to. My whole fam uses it and shares some passwords.

I use my own https://0password.github.io for private stuff and 1password at work. Both are very convenient and well made :)
