I had a period of time in my life when I worked at toxic place and my stress levels were so high I could not fall asleep at night. I would have constant flow of thoughts and was laying in bed for hours with sleep not coming. I could not leave that place for some time (circumstances out of my control). I found an article about a method some RAF pilots used during the war to fall asleep. Can't find that particular article I have gone through but google yields lots of results:

I tried that as last resort before going to GP but luckily this method worked for me. Later when I left that toxic place the sleep came back on its own.

Depending on your age, some medical conditions present themselves more prominently at certain points in life. Bipolar is one; it typically becomes more / most acute in the mid to late twenties. I had a great deal of insomnia due to this condition (and still do), though it has mellowed as I’ve aged.

What is your acute concern?

There is a difference between your sleep pattern affecting important aspects of your life and your sleep pattern not following a published metric.

I mean if insomnia is causing you to fall asleep while driving see a doctor. If worrying about insomnia is the most salient effect, not worrying is an option. Unless you need a hobby, and some people do.

Our life patterns change with age. [1] Then change again with more age. Sometimes we need to go to a doctor, sometimes we don't. Good luck.
