I believe "peto-masculinity" (not my term but I feel it accurately captures the phenomenon see Cara Daggett) overrides the desire to be a Musketeer.

A lot of conservatives live in rural areas, where EV range and lack of suitable chargers is a big drawback. Towing capacity and winter driving are also issues (tires and battery capacity in the cold). Probably those matter most than the politics of the manufacturer. A lot of car companies make EVs now...
