Can open-source model extend to innovation development and research

With http://nodecosmos.com we are exploring the potential of applying open-source collaboration principles to innovation development and research projects.

Core features:

1. Nodes: Each node can represent a component of a system, an ingredient in a recipe, or any other type of constituent. Nodes can contain other nodes, collectively forming a tree that represents the entire system.

2. Workflows: Workflows in Nodecosmos detail every interaction between nodes in a step-by-step format. As each node has its own workflow, it allows for a comprehensive design of both the big picture and specific details.

3. Contribution Request (akin to GitHub’s pull requests): Contribution Requests are central to managing collaboration on projects. It represents a proposal to merge a set of changes to the project. Contribution Requests clearly display the differences between the proposed changes and the existing state of the project, ensuring that all modifications are considered and assessed carefully before integration. This feature facilitates collaborative decision-making by enabling team members to review, discuss, and approve changes systematically.

Do you think this model of open collaboration could be adopted to some extent for innovation development and research projects?
