Maybe there was intense social pressure to buy an Apple II as a home computer instead?

The C-64 is one of the most beloved computers of all time. I don't remember an intense social pressure to buy an Apple II. Apple cut deals with schools so that lots of school computer labs had Apple II machines, but students understood that was expensive and were happy to get any computer they could get at home. Which was oftentimes a C-64 because of its power and cost.

Why do you think so?
One thing is sure: between June 1977 and August 1982, you could buy an Apple II, but not a Commodore 64.
So, for 5 years, no shunning or social pressure was necessary to make consumers buy Apple IIs over commodore 64s.

I don't remember the C-64 being shunned in SV, but if it was then it shows how feeble the effort was, considering that the C-64 remains the best-selling personal computer of all time.
