At one startup I worked at, the CTO accidentally nuked the master branch from both his local machine and upstream. We restored it from the copy I had on my laptop. This incident didn't result in creating backups to my knowledge

Backup is an important part of source code security strategy. In the perfect scenario, it's worth having a few workinf copies of your git repos and metadata in different locations. For that reason, it's possible to use diffrent backup optons, like backup scripts or DevOps backup tools (e.g. GitProtect).

Yes, we backup a git repo, but not a GitHub with their issues, PRs and so on.

So i have question to HN too, what a good ways you know to backup GitHub repo with all stuff from there?

I tried a gitea, but it may only copy repo once, but not sync changes.

I was using source repositories on gcp for this. I have it mirroring my github repositories. Unfortunately it is getting killed.

I use remotes liberally. Reconciliation is a problem for later
