Best way to do family video calls at home?

For the past couple of years, we've been talking to my parents in a different country via Facebook Portal TV. They have one in their home, and we have another one in ours. The smart camera is really nice, as we have two little kids and the auto-panning keeps the kids in frame even when they're playing around the living room.

Lately though, Facebook Portal has been failing more and more getting the calls to work, calls drop midway, microphone stops working, poor audio quality... and generally, Meta has stopped any development/support on this due to EOL.

Other than simply phones/Ipads/Laptops, are there any good devices that could replace our Portal TVs?

I get that everybody has a phone/ipad/laptop available these days, but I was surprised that I couldn't easily find any good video conferencing system for home use.

thanks!

Check out this app for video meetings. It allows you to hide behind a virtual frosted glass to comfortably stay in the meeting for a long time.

I don't think it can be used as a portal, but it's a cool app to use when you're working on a laptop and want your family or a friend with you on the video.
