Which metrics are necessary to monitor backups?

I'm still new to backups for MySQL and PgSQL so i'd like to know such thingsI do know about metrics like backup file size, backup delivery time but which do you think are necessary for backup collection processes and which ones just make your life easier?

The single most important thing before you even think about metrics is periodic restoration tests.If you're not doing that on a regular basis (and the test should include confirming that your system is actually functioning properly after restoration), that should be your first priority.
