If you are the CTO of your organization what changes would you do?

I have been at my company for almost 5 years and the last year or so I have come to the understanding that most of the difficult to solve issues me and my team face actually originate from a few underlying massive issues and bad decisions my organisation took. It is difficult to solve these issues for good without a c-level influence.

For example it is difficult to find a source of truth of many information in my organisation at the moment. So one change I would do is introduce something like an ESB and appoint a staff or principle engineer to maintain it alongside a organisation wide schema.

I wonder if there are others in the tech sphere facing similar issues and would like to hear from them if so.

I would ask first: what’s the business value from implementing it? Is it going to speed up time to market for new features? How many features do you ship per year? What’s the ROI.

Business do not give a monkey about tech or processes unless there is value coming out of the change.
