Want to Work in Different Areas

I’ve been doing full stack development for about 4 years now, I’m pretty tired of it. I would like to move more into server side type work but my roles have been more heavily focused on the frontend so far so I’m lacking experience.

I do side projects that interest me in this area but especially in this job market that doesn’t really cut it. I don’t feel comfortable even looking at jobs asking for C++ experience for example, knowing that my side projects that I work on for fun would be my only source of experience to talk about, when the job is asking for someone who has real industry experience.

Are there other things I can do to make this transition? Has anyone else done something similar and willing to share what you did?

I've got an offer in a field I was interested in (machine learning "researcher" for a computer vision application), but it was paying roughly half what I was making previously as a backend dev, so I declined it. How I got the offer? Self-study, doing simple projects, working on my maths and stats fundamentals.

I'm in the same boat. I work as a data engineer but am completely burnout in this field. I don't think moving to other companies will fix because I already moved a few times.

I do have a few side projects but they are mostly tutorial/textbook oriented so no match for real projects. Plus the burnout is also hurting them. I don't know how to get into low level programming job with such a small profile.

I wish OP good luck. Maybe you can find a position in current company?
