How does one navigate the music industry?

I only know the tech/telco/military organiztions. I am trying to reach a retired music performer that was married to my biological father. He passed away long ago and I only met him a couple times without being told who he was to me. He was not allowed to talk to me but was allowed to perform one song. Searching the web I can only find fan mail sites that all seem to belong to tabloids and other nefarious entities. How does one reach the official handlers of these people? Unfortunately all her kids are also celebrities and the one I was briefly able to reach stopped communicating with me when I brought up her dad. I am not emailing anyone here, just looking for generalized information about this. Maybe biographers? Pursuing this is probably a poor choice on my part.

I thought you were thinking about getting into the music industry, so I was going to offer up the quote from Hunter S Thompson :/

Might still be pertinent.

β€œThe music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.”

― Hunter S. Thompson

You're right, if they're not looking for you then you will probably be disappointed.

That said, if I was looking for someone in the music biz I'd start with people I know they've worked with in the past because they're often more accessible.
