It's probably more accurate to say "Plan to throw three away. You will anyway."

In the past we've often laughed at Microsoft who never seems to get something to work well until Version 3. But let's be truthful, it's not only Microsoft that needs to make 3 iterations of anything before it's good enough.

When I was young and silly, I built a big expensive house. Great, except that it was full of bad designs and bad decisions. I couldn't afford to repeat that exercise.

Yes, but today with the rapid feedback of iterative and incremental development, we throw things away sooner.
