The whole internet is full of people complaining about this future - that is supposed to help because it is "easy" to call 911 from someone else's phone (stolen phone or what?). In reality I think I called 112 already like 30 times after the update. So no, it does not help me in case of an emergency, it just blocks the emergency line with useless calls. Also due to the sheer number of useless calls the 911 operators become used to ignoring "empty" calls - and probably people who need help will not get it.
Why cannot Samsung / Android make a feature that requires unlocking the screen by sliding or tapping in special places before a call? Did Samsung and Google just use cheapest bidders to make software? Because this all feels like a perversy - they made some law that phones need to be able to call the emergency number when locked, but then the phones unlock so easy that the internet is full of people who seem to have called the emergency line hundreds of times. Without any real information how to disable this perverse feature - because it seems you cant?
FWIW, if your phone is in your pocket, have the screen facing away from your leg. Otherwise, it could register touches.
AFAIK it’s a requirement for certification of mobile phones that calling emergency numbers is possible for everybody. It definitely was 20-ish years ago.
