Why would Zuck giveaway $5M worth LLMs for Free?

With the latest CodeLlama 70B release, It seems Mark Zuckerberg really wants to release their language models. Llama 3 might follow later. The cost approximately seems to be around $5M so far and why would Zuck would want to do that?Developer goodwill? Crush OpenAI? Choke Google?

As they say if it's free you are the product!More seriously Meta is experimenting with AI and the cost of $5m you've come up with is as good as R&D, its set to depreciate in value rapidly as the iteration on the models improve, and its just a step along the way. There is no way to monetise it realistically with the business model Meta currently has which keeps developers in their own ecosystem.
