Facebook embedding their app in smartphones, what's in it for them?

I'm curious if anyone has insight into this question.

A number of years ago I bought a Samsung Android, and it turned out that Samsung had a relationship with Facebook where the Facebook application couldn't actually be uninstalled from my phone.

I can disable and reenable the app, but I can't remove it.

Beyond the obvious benefit of Facebook removing friction in the re-instatement of the app on a person's phone, is there any other benefit for them in doing this? Would a disabled Facebook app be able to do anything on the phone?

It probably counts as an installed app in the play store?
