HACKER Q&A

Why do some submissions not have a link to discuss?

Because people will ask for an example, I’m using the submission in position eleven…and, because there’s no discussion link, all I can do is give the title.

I’m sure Hacker News has a reason, just curious what the reason is.

“Emerge (YC W21) is hiring an android expert to help build the future of mobile.”

“How Twitter Broke the News” is an article on The Verge that I submitted.

There is no discussion link.

It is clearly not an ad…wasn’t posted as such.

Again, I must ask why, both because of the exception it presents to these two responses •and• because I would like to know what HN users have to say.

At twelve days out, the responses aren’t likely.

Disappointing.

From the FAQ https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html

"Another kind of job ad is reserved for YC-funded startups. These appear on the front page, but are not stories: they have no vote arrows, points, or comments. They begin part-way down and fall steadily. Only one is on the front page at a time."

Reason is that comments on job posts are usually low-quality or better asked to the company directly (for example "do you allow remote work?")

They're job ads. https://news.ycombinator.com/jobs

You don't get to discuss them because they're ads and YC wouldn't want people posting opinions about the companies there.
