What's the best way to make an ecommerce site from scratch?
I've been wanting to make a few ecommerce sites for some friends/family of mine, but I haven't seen any affordable solutions for developers. A few developers have asked this question and people normally suggest to go with Shopify. Shopify's basic plan is $40/month though, which is too expensive for the people I've talked to. I have no experience with Wordpress as well, which seems to be an other option. As a new software engineer, making an entire platform like Shopify seems too daunting. Are there any affordable solutions for a developer who wants to make an ecommerce site? Or would I just have to make my own with something like React + Node + Stripe for payments? Thank you!
$40 per month seems reasonable, are you planning on self hosting? If you are planning on using go Daddy or a similar Service, the most likely offer a preinstalled WordPress solution and then it's just a matter of templates and plug-ins both of which are freely available.
Don't sell yourself short either, you connected its friends you need to charge for your time so if they're concerned over $40 maybe you better ask them for a business plan before getting into deep.
Shopify website: "Start for free, then enjoy $1/month for 3 months". If you are going to be selling items, then you should be earning $40 a month after the trial period
not exactly an ecommerce site, but ebay?
