How do you ethically promote your work

Social media has consolidated people's attention onto a small number of platforms, e.g. Google/Youtube, Facebook/Instagram, X, Reddit, etc. Over the years, I've slowly divorced myself from each of these platforms (most recently Reddit where I was a moderator of r/MachinLearning), due to concerns that I'm helping entrench these tech giants.

How do you promote yourself and your work without utilizing these popular platforms? For example, many people I've seen who left Twitter for Mastodon are back on X.

I've been thinking of starting a blog, but it's hard to attract attention without posting on a widely used platform. My goal isn't to attract lots of attention for attention's sake, but merely to be part of the conversation, which seems harder and harder to do as I've lowered my digital footprint.

I'm generally a pragmatist, which makes me think maybe I should go back; why make things more difficult for myself. On the other hand I have a strong desire to take active measures to address concerns like media/tech consolidation, hence why I've deactivated my accounts.

Happy to hear any thoughts you have!

I feel you... I wasn't very fond of social media and its scammish postings. However, after I delved into the marketing sector, I had no choice but to return to SNS. I'm still skeptical and still too proud to let go of my ego but I'm trying to get used to these viral marketings.

I would love to be connected if by any chance; @KimSunn64305074 (X)

Haha, two hours later and no engagement. Maybe this is just my "Old man yells at cloud" moment.

sharing some secret sauce / wisdom / learnings from your projects / experiences is a good one for linkedin

eg when i need some webdev work I might post a lighthouse chrome report screenshot reading 100% [with fireworks] showing how I managed to hit perfection for a specific project / page / site - [most devs cannot get close to this] then suddenly some likes, some DMs, some biz if I want it.

tl;dr showcase your skills, share some knowledge, create some guru gravity.
