Which image file format do you find most effective for balancing quality and performance in web development?
For compactness, for more capable viewers, usually WEBP versions of those, though also sometimes AVIF (lossy only) and JXL.
Can do HDR. Lossless. Low bit depth. High bit depth. Color profiles.
I like these personally.
In real world what do I use? A JPEG or PNG. What's the point if I can't discord it?
Seriously, asking people just to install IRFANview is a big ask. People still think that they can't open WebP images for some reason when basically they can and it's not that hard or inconvenient. And it's not just the not technologically inclined that have this issue in fact I think people who are more opinionated and more informed have this issue even more so. No image format is going to be catching on anytime soon as long as nerds have opinions. No matter how much better compression ratio it has or how easy it is to open or the more things that it allows us to view like native HDR images... For whatever reason image formats are impossible for people.
