HACKER Q&A

What technology events do you frequent?

I am a computer consultant that is thinking about providing some services to business that I don't have the skills to provide and I want to develop one-to-one relationships with other independent consultants to see if I can contract some disciplines out.

I'm fairly isolated from the world as I have been working mainly with consumers and very small business and don't get out much.

Id rather stay away from business networking events because I found them to be too artificial for my tastes, so I was thinking about attending conferences that relate to skills i'm interested in learning.

I'm looking to meet and develop relationships with other experts in small business information security, data recovery, application development.

Does anyone have any recommendations on sites that list technology events that I can look at to see which ones fit my needs?

Does Blackhat still have a in-person conference? I saw on their website they had one in Aug of 2023.

I was thinking I could get some suggestions from independent consultants that frequent Hacker News that regularly attends technology events.

There was a time when local meetups was a good way to make friends in specific tech communities. (There's usually a time when people socialize before or after the presentations...)

I haven't been in a couple of years now for various reasons, but All Things Open[1] has been one of the primary ones I've attended. I've been a speaker there a couple of times, and a regular attendee a few other times. It's always a good time either way.
