Better to submit scientific paper here than a news story about it?

I ask because when I submit a news story, there's often a predominantly negative tone to the comments because of any number of reasons: clickbait headline, inaccuracies, writer's knowledge base and credentials, misinterpretation of scientific results, methodology, etc.

Yet when I submit original scientific papers, far more often than not they pass through HN unremarked, as if they never appeared.

I have the same experience. HN has a rule against editing titles but the main effect of that rule is to advantage news outlets that have already optimized their titles for clicks and upvotes while disadvantaging scientific journals or anything with a more measured tone.

I've sadly had the same experience. People don't want to take the time to read a paper, while sniping at a second hand summary like a news article is easy karma. I still prefer submitting the paper.

FWIW your submissions are great and almost always worth the time, so don't blame yourself.

IMHO submit the news article as the post, and go the extra mile to add the paper as a comment with one or two sentences of explanatory context, or the abstract. IIRC you've done that before.
