Trying to help a small business owner


Looking to tap into the community's wisdom and experience here --

Q: Any ideas, pointers, paths in trying to help a non-techie friend who owns a local business, who got her business and personal FB and Instagram account suspended for a linked IG account she doesn't own (gibberish title she's never seen) and doesn't know how to escalate (no phone number for Meta support, etc obviously).

Can anyone at Meta provide a pointer in a direction for this situation?

Context: She's an amazing birth doula that I hope more folk can continue to hire here in the Boston area. Her social presence was a big part to help generate awareness of her services for expecting parents.

Initial message on FB Messenger she received: ""We have determined that you are not eligible to use Facebook. This decision is final. Unfortunately, for safety and security reasons, we can't give you any additional information as to why your account was disabled. For more information about our policies, please review the Facebook Terms."

More info: "Your account was suspended because your linked Instagram account long-gibberish-title-account-name-that-she-didn't-own doesn't follow our rules. Log into your linked Instagram account to appeal our decision."

Personal FB page, business FB page and FB messenger suspended, and real IG account is fine.

Question: what would you do? Would you go the account rep for the business route?

(I'm rare poster, but have been an avid, near daily HN reader since 2011 and thought I'd ask the community)

Instagram has a whole help section with what appears to be numerous useful pages: https://help.instagram.com/

Searching them is garbage, you'll want to go through the index manually for those that might apply. I'd look into account recovery and verified business pages.

I was on there the other day, trying to recover my account (they flagged it because I rarely login in and I have a new computer)

There was a number in there for Instagram support too. I didn't need to use it.

I was able to get back in with minimal effort, took about a day.
