When I was a kid I often played my cassette player when I came home from school. It was simple technology, had no major traps and getting new content was fairly easy. This contributed a lot to my later interest in music.
I'd like for my kids to have the ability to have such an experience. Now, nowadays nothing gets released on cassette's, and they do already have some favorites. Also, me and my wife are quite vary of screens for them, especially portable screens like phones and tablets, so we do not give them full freedom on how and when to use them. The problem is, that nowadays music gets released on youtube, spotify etc. - apps, and to access it the most straight forward way is portable screens.
I have some ideas on how to approach, like a laptop with limited access, I've seen some dedicated hardware for this, etc. But mostly would like to ask you, as a way to get independent view on this and new ideas. How do your kids access music? Do you have any alternatives to screens? What works well and what not?
NOTE: my kids are 2 and 6 years old, english is not their primary language.
I've heard that newer Sansas aren't compatible with Rockbox, and the ones that are sell for ~$50 secondhand.
