I see that there get the past decade ML is a hugely popular subject for CS students, I know some folks in medicine study ML too. However if AI gets commoditized will there be enough impetus for students to take it? How about students in other fields? Should any worry about their fields becoming irrelevant? May be I am unnecessarily overthinking this and nothing to overindex on?
If they are already in college, then I think they should study what interests them while at the same time making sure they take advantage of AI where it is applicable.
But beyond four or five years, I suspect there will be a dramatic shift. Not sure what it will be, but basic assumptions about education and society will be challenged by AI.
