What Do Recruiters Do?

I'm unemployed yet again (2023 has just been a spectacular year for me), and so I'm once again in the process of spamming my resume to a million companies and deal with recruiters.My luck hasn't been great, and it ended up making me wonder what recruiters actually do. It seems like all they do is hit the "fwd" button on an email client, but surely they must do more, right?

My experience with recruitment agencies suggests our CVs are parsed by some cobbled together AI which is hardly much more than a keyword matching program. Unless we score a "bingo", we simply get ghosted.On LinkedIn I get inquiries by recruiters who have obviously not bothered to read my profile.
