I'm currently a Master's student in NLP in France and I need to complete a 2-to-6-month-long internship between January and September 2024 to complete my degree. The thing is I have had jaw surgery planned for March for a long time already and I can hardly move from where I'm staying right now because subsequent visits to the surgeon's office will be required after surgery.
I only have two options: find an internship in my city or find a remote internship. It seems that offers are very scarce in both cases, but I might be more lucky with remote internships. I've had a certain number of interviews for non-remote internships in NLP, data analysis/science or full-stack dev, most of them going great, but every time I mention that I won't be able to move it's a big no-no for them (and I perfectly understand why). Lately I've been getting really stressed about that because I feel like I'll never be able to land an internship and get my degree simply due to health requirements.
Has anybody else been in a similar situation? How doomed am I?
Due to the scarcity of remote internship offers, I'm also not really sure where you are supposed to find them? I'm primarily using LinkedIn when it comes to searching for internship offers. Is it a good place to search or should I use/do something else?
I knew a few people who took an unpaid one as moving for an internship wouldn't have made any significant financial difference as intern pay is fairly low.
