Examples of well designed statistics websites?

I am looking for an inspiration for a side-project which includes a counter / stats to spark emotion from the user. I wonder if there are any great websites that present data (like CO2 released into the air each year) that is being counted on homepage or anything else along these lines?

Our World in Data is pretty awesome. Here is one with CO2.

This was posted the other day: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37370900

One of the dashboards from there: https://climatechangetracker.org/global-warming

My 2ยข, though, is that the public is sick of climate data and visualizations and have banner blindness about all of it by now. "Oh, yeah, the climate is getting worse still, and it's all hopeless". It doesn't really matter how you dress up that data, even very simple messages like "350" (ppm of CO2) come and go in hype cycles and then are forgotten because nothing ever really changes. Fundamentally the climate situation isn't a matter of data or science lacking, but not having the political and popular will to make sufficient changes. I don't think counters are going to change that =/
