Why does Google so badly want me to buy a Pixel Pro 8?

I own an iPhone 12 which Google happily accepts for trade-in value of $480. Apple, however, finds it worth only $250.

Google Pixel Pro 8 costs $999 vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max at $1199.

Google also gives away either a Pixel Watch 2 (worth $349) or Pixel Buds Pro (worth $199).

So purchasing the latest flagship from Google costs almost _half_ it costs to buy Apple's latest iPhone.
