Why have people started including GPT in their usernames?

I noticed here, and on other sites there's a number of new accounts that end in GPT: Jaguar_GPT, shat_gpt, ChumpGPT, etc.

I don't really get the appeal of adding GPT suffix, especially when people act against GPT generated submissions. Is there any "reason" to this? Is this a thing?

I heard a similar complaint not too long ago about "keepa"-prefixed usernames.

Might just be a fad.

Perhaps it's a symbolic statement that their data should not be used for training, in the thought that these ML systems are configured to avoid training on AI-generated data.

My suspicion is they're bots.

The answer according to ChatGPT:

As of my last training cut-off in January 2022, using "GPT" in usernames was not a widespread trend, at least in the context of general social media or online platforms. However, there are a few potential reasons why someone might incorporate "GPT" into a username:

Affiliation with the Technology: Users might want to show their affiliation or interest in GPT or AI-related technologies. For someone working in AI, ML, or with GPT specifically, this could be a way of branding or showing their expertise.

Fan or Enthusiast: As GPT and other OpenAI models have gained popularity, some enthusiasts or fans of the technology may adopt such usernames to express their admiration.

Memes or Trends: Online communities often develop memes or trends around popular topics. If GPT became a cultural or online phenomenon in some way, people might use "GPT" in their usernames as part of a trend or in-joke.

Misleading Impersonation: It's conceivable (though unethical) that someone might use "GPT" in their username to imply that they are a bot or are associated with GPT in some way, potentially misleading others.

AI-Generated Content Channels: If a user runs a blog, YouTube channel, or any other content platform where a significant amount of the content is generated or assisted by GPT, they might use "GPT" in the name to highlight this fact.

It's essential to approach such usernames with the same critical thinking and skepticism as any other online handle. It's always possible that someone might use "GPT" in their username without any actual affiliation or association with the technology.

If this has become a significant trend after 2022, you might want to look into more contemporary sources or platforms to understand the context and reasons behind it.
