Why does Apple want macOS to look like iOS?

macOS Sonoma was released a few days ago. Sure enough, as with every release since Big Sur, macOS now looks more and more like iOS (cf. https://www.theverge.com/2023/7/12/23792490/macos-sonoma-public-beta-preview, for instance)

I just don't get it. I hate this move, and I know I'm not the only one who doesn't want his computer to become a toy. Many people around me alo use a Mac, and I can't name a single one who'd want their computer to look more like the iPhone.

Am I a niche market for Apple? Also, what do you think is the real reason for this move?

Moves like this are obviously part of a top level strategy, not stated explicitly that I know of. I don't know anyone who wants a mobile experience on the desktop or laptop.

I personally find the desktop environment to be 100x more productive and crash-proof, especially the loss of typing in text fields (ruin your day). Also, features like (gasp) a file system took centuries ( in "internet time" ) to find their way to mobile.

I worry every time I switch apps in iOS, and I often copy entire text areas as a precaution.

That said, there's always something more focused and at the same time customizable to your needs and wants, called Linux, coming very soon to my previous workhorse intel Mac Mimi, one of the intel family that Apple is obsoleting at an accelerated pace.
