Decent VPN with a good reputation?

Sorry for asking about this, but Google results are just full of garbage ad placements for stuff like this. I used Express for a long time, but I'd like to switch over to something with a really rock solid reputation for not tracking and such. There's at least one I know has been talked about before but I forget the name.

Was it mulvad? Don't think its nordvpn.

I always got a little worried about Express vpn's constant updates. Encryption is a really well-hammered area of computer science by now. Sure, its an especially difficult area of security coverage, but nothing's changing fast enough to require weekly client updates from the vpn provider. I'm still using my 4096 encryption keys I made with OpenSSH almost 10 years ago with no worries about them being broken any time soon. So getting constant updates from my vpn provider does not give me any confidence in what they're doing except perhaps trying to insert stuff onto my system that I don't want.

Are there any commercial VPN's that I can use at a really base level from the CLI? I feel like I'd be more comfortable if I could write out a bash alias that performs a known quantity of steps using OSS vpn software that I could at least run and evaluate step by step, if needed.

I think the one you're thinking of is Mullvad. They let you make an account without even telling them your email address. You just create an account number and pay (anonymously, if you like).
