I'm helping relatives who have dementia, and I'm hitting blockers with security challenges related to two-factor authentication (2FA), multi-factor-authentication (MFA), and out-of-wallet (OOW) questions.
These people have all given up their mobile phones meaning there's no phone number, and can't remember their online passwords, and are unable to understand banking challenge questions such as "Which of these four streets are near where you used to live?".
Example: the insurance company's website needs to send the person a SMS text to verify their sign in, and needs to send an email password reset link, then needs the person to answer their personal security questions.
I have a Power Of Attorney (POA), so this isn't a legal question. So far, most companies have accepted the POA within a week or so, yet it doesn't help with the ongoing processes of online sign in, or password reset, etc.
Is this an impossible challenge? Or are there hacks, or workarounds, or some kind of delegation of authority process that people in the know use for this kind of help?
