Thin Developer Notebook
Can HN recommend a modern notebook with great Linux support? My current one is an Asus UX305 I purchased eight years ago. I'm relatively happy with it, but the processor doesn't have enough juice so even lightweight programs like Emacs lags when it runs on battery. My requirements for a new notebook are 1) great Linux support, 2) thin, 3) fanless, 4) HiDPI resolution (preferably 3200x1800 or higher), 5) mid-range price. I'll mostly use it for coding and YouTube.
Can't go wrong with a Thinkpad X1 Carbon. Perhaps look into one of the previous generations if the newer ones are too pricy. They have great Linux support, and I suppose they're thin enough. I'm hoping to get one at some point.
I'm running Arch/i3 on a Thinkpad X13, it's decent enough for most dev work.
have you considered Asahi linux and a mac?
