Why Medium fell out of fashion?

I'm a long-term HN lurker and I don't visit here very frequently. In my memory there were a lot of articles hosted on Medium. I suddenly realized that they're a lot less common than before these days.What happened? Why isn't Medium cool any more? What's cool today, self-hosting static blogs?

I've been using Medium as a blog since late-2021 to mid-2022. I've switched over to my blog, using Jekyll, and planning on switching to SvelteKit, or merging the blog with my website.

While the articles on Medium used to be good, they evolved into mediocrity. Combine that with a paywall and your chances of success aren't very high.
