Do FANGs/big tech companies budge on IP clauses for L3-L5 engineers?


I want the IP agreement i sign to only include the work done for the company, and to exclude anything i do on my own time

i was thinking of trying to work for FANG (or whatever big tech companies pay similar) because they tend to pay a lot more than smaller/mid size companies

i wanted to know if FANGs budge on IP clauses for L3 to L5 level engineers. or if they just laugh in your face and say "sign or someone else will"

i ask because I don't want to spend the next 6-12 months grinding LC if they don't generally do that

Ownership of IP is covered by law and precedent. You should research that. Everything in an employment contract is negotiable. You can expect all employers to assert ownership of IP developed as part of your job, or on company time, using employer-provided resources, or within the scope of your assigned work. Anything else you can negotiate.

Good luck getting a job at a FAANG company grinding on leetcode to make a big salary so you can work on a side project. They love people aligned like that with their goals.
