How do I deal with this job/role dissatisfaction?

I have been in the world of software development for more than 10 years. Over the course of my career, I have donned the hat of a tech-aware Scrum Master.

I have reached a point where I achieve the things that are part of my responsibilities rather quickly. Time and again, I'm finding myself asking for work to my immediate managers. I am purposely using the plural "managers", cause the pattern seems to repeat even after changing the organisations.

I see the posts/comments from people wanting to make more money, but for me, it is the opposite end that matters. While the money is coming in, and making the ends meet -- it's the dreadful thought of "what do I do now?" during the day is making the work day unsatisfactory.

My other interests are wireframing and prototyping, which I had done in the early days of my career. I feel they put me in some kind of "a zone".

If you have seen the movie "Soul", the dialogue from a particular character after their jazz performance, "We come back tomorrow night and do it all over again!" --- hits me hard!

Career change and its repercussions on finances are something that I can't bear at the moment, so I'm asking the HN community -- Have you been through such a situation? How do you deal with it?

Start thinking about how you can make the product better from the perspective of the users and focus on that. Treat your work and product like an art and refine it. Manager direction or feedback isn’t everything nor does it feel very rewarding in the long run. Take more initiative. I doubt they want to micromanage you anyways.

If you don’t know what to do, think about what the users would want you to improve. Or if you don’t know maybe create more relationships with them.

Of course you can always switch jobs but it’s the same type of thing anywhere you go, just different people/products.
