How to Switch Career to ML?

Context: Got a B.sc & M.sc in Computer Science as well as a couple of years of professional programming in the games industry.How do I go about making a career switch into the field of AI, ML and the like? Side projects? Back to school? Coursera?Anyone who has done something similar recently?

I suspect that AI business is in such a place at the moment that any warm body with decent technical skills can get in as-is.
And there's "AI" going on in lots of non-AI-branded business too.
