What is behind the recent wave of Terms of Service changes?

I have had prompts from several apps, the New York Times, Zoom, and Samsung all modifying their terms of service.

Samsung said it was something about arbitration, but there are so many happening so close together, I have to wonder if some new law or lawsuit has set a precedent they're modifying for.
