Will you be signing up for Threads?
Got the notification this morning and signed up (@iamflimflam1) - so far it seems to work, but is anyone actually going to sign up and use it?
I will not. For me, the most discussions and hate on Twitter is hard to read. With topics aimed at an even broader and more mainstream audience (sign in with Instagram), there will be even fewer people sharing really interesting and niche tech topics. I imagine there will be hundreds of "How to hack any website with this simple trick" type posts or pseudo "grindset" motivational posts.
I really liked the "share your personal blogs" post in HN and hope we all appreciate this kind of content more than these social media tiktok wanna be like endless scrolling reddit apps.
Quit Twitter a couple years ago and my life's been considerably better for it. No idea why I'd then sign up for Mark Zuckerberg's Twitter.
Signup? yes. Already did. Use it? Not sure. I don't use Twitter much either though these days. Does Threads have the ecosystem early Twitter had? It wouldn't let me use it from a desktop which annoyed me to begin with.
I also have a bluesky account and look at it maybe once a week at best.
No, I am sure Threads will be less mean and more friendly but it will be probably more censored. I don't like how Facebook/Instagram(and previously Twitter) censored people, specially during elections.
I’ve never used Twitter. Certainly, I won’t be signing up with Threads. Fundamentally, I don’t see a use for most such applications.
I never used twitter on the daily so I don't see a point.
Also, the app is not available in the EU* because it's currently not GDPR compliant. That tells me all I need to know about data security @ threads.
* It will be available in the UK starting today however
If it becomes widely accessible via the web, I may consider it.
It is unfortunate that they decided to require a custom client at launch.
Not if it requires installing an additional mobile app.
