What do you think of Threads so far?

There isn't a desktop version but the app is finally out (For Americans).

https://www.threads.net/

It's clearly a twitter clone outside of a strictly chronological feed option missing. They appear to have brought in a few journalists and sports reporters from what I can tell.

I don't understand why anybody would use this. There are plenty of "Twitter alternatives" already, and Meta doesn't exactly have a great reputation. I see no reason to expect them to deliver anything noteworthy.

Sorry, not going to bother personally. If it turns out to be be awesome, I'm sure somebody will let me know.

They should have launched with fresh Threads usernames. Being able to get short usernames as an early adopter is a huge incentive to sign up and use a new platform.

Well, I can see linked post from a browser, with no login.

That is something.

It's nearly useless for me because of the single algorithmic fees. I only want to see people I'm following. If I want to see something else, I want to be able to explore topics intentionally. I'm basically just waiting for fediverse integration to happen so I can follow normies from Mastodon.

I find that feed awful. It's showing me a lot of people that I don't know and that I have no interest in knowing.

If they want to thrive, that feed is definitely one of the first things they must work on.

I don't see any VC, crypto or AI bro drivel yet so it is fine for now.
