What Kind of Expert Consultant Do You Need Most, Now?

I'm curious what kind of outside technical expert folks are looking for now? What skill set do you need most? Even if for only a finite-scoped project or urgent technical problem.

For example, I happen to specialize in performance & scalability, both in terms of coming in (remotely) to do fixes, rescues/rewrites, tuning or even a blanket mandate to "do whatever it takes to save us more money than you will cost us." (Like I save you $20k so get $5k. Or save you $1M so get $200k. An exchange which sure seems like "common sense" from an economic perspective. heh)

But... are their other areas of focus where there's a big gap between supply and demand -- NOW -- talent-wise?

AI, ML, and LLMs would all make sense -- but I don't want to speculate.

Let's all hear, together, from the horse's mouth(s)!

And don't say "more devs" or "nice folks who solve & ship" because that's obvious, and too generic. Be specific. :-)

thank you

There is never enough knowledge workers these days, so there's always a gap in the market somewhere. I would say leave the LLM/AI hype-train alone and let it mature a bit before trying to master it and then sell those skills.
