Why would anyone work so hard to fake that he is a VC?

Why would anyone work so hard to fake things? Like creating a LinkedIn that says his company is based off a rich country and truly believe that founders are stupid and won't find out by simply searching available (on the internet) information?

He is not the only one! I found out that there are several folks from different nationalities do this! And the bizarre thing is that this is not a simple lie. No, they work extraordinary hard to fake their website, degrees, affiliation and so on.

Why do they do this?
